Train Crossings In Commerce City To Get Automatic, Quieter Horns
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - Train horns won't be blowing loudly anymore in one neighborhood in Commerce City.
On Friday local lawmakers and Sen. Mark Udall celebrated their work to get a quiet zone established at 96th Avenue and Highway 2.
There will be still be horns, but they'll be an automated horn posted at the crossing when a train approaches. It's much quieter than a train's horn and less of a headache for neighbors.
"When you have conductors lay on their horns consecutively, okay, no break all the way from 104th to 88th, all the way through our community at 2 a.m. when your windows are open, you're startled to death," homeowner Dianna Ayala said.
The quiet zone at 96th and Highway 2 is the fifth one approved in Commerce City.
