Town Of Elizabeth Allows Bow Hunters To Shoot Deer

ELIZABETH, Colo. (CBS4)- The Town of Elizabeth is allowing bow hunters to shoot deer within city limits to help thin the deer population.

Supporters of the proposal believe the hundreds of deer in Elizabeth damage fences and cause dozens of road accidents.

"These are very skilled bow hunters and very capable of making a kill shot, killing the animal almost instantly. That's about as humane as you can get," said Elizabeth Town Administrator Dick Eason.

Opponents believe archery is a cruel way to kill an animal.

"We have to say goodbye to these deer. When this is said and done they're all gonna be slaughtered," said Elizabeth resident Paulette Walker.

Twelve skilled bow hunters will be selected. They will kill 15 deer per year in three designated areas away from the population.
