Too Many Bears: Overnight Camping Banned At Crater Lake

PITKIN COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Overnight camping is no longer allowed at Crater Lake because of bears.

The Forest Service says there have been too many human-bear encounters at Crater Lake since June.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers will be at Crater Lake this week using bean bags and rubber bullets on the bears. The idea is to discourage them from going to the campsite area to look for garbage.

The Forest Service says the ban will stay in place until further notice.
