1990 US Senate Debate

CBS4's first Political Specialist Ralph Allen moderates a 1990 US Senate debate between Democrat Josie Heath (a former Boulder County Commissioner) and Republican Hank Brown (former US Representative for Colorado's 4th Congressional District). Republican Senator Bill Armstrong had decided not did not seek re-election in 1990. Hank Brown went on to win the Senate seat by 56% to 42% and served one term. Wayne Allard succeeded him. Ralph Allen was from Michigan, and after teaching high school, serving in Vietnam as a Broadcast specialist for the American Forces Vietnam Network, and attending Notre Dame Law School part-time, he worked as a reporter, anchor, and news director in Michigan, Indiana, and then Denver. Highlights of his career included the numerous political conventions and inaugurations he covered, a trip to Japan with Governor-Elect Roy Romer, and traveling with the Gary Hart campaign. Ralph passed away at the age of 51 in 1995,after a long battle with cancer.
