4 Officers, 1 Civilian Shot; 1 Deputy Killed In Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - Three officers, two El Paso County Sheriff's deputies and a Colorado Springs Police officer, have been shot in Colorado Springs.

CBS4 has learned a deputy has died. Colorado Springs Police Chief Pete Carey updated news organizations and said the situation started as a motor vehicle theft near N. Murray Boulevard and Galley Road.

Officers encountered an adult male suspect and shots were fired after officers "struggled" with the suspect.

Police say one civilian was shot and taken to the hospital. Three El Paso County Sheriff's deputies and a Colorado Springs Police officer were also shot.

The CSPD officer is in surgery and listed in stable condition.

Police say the sole suspect is dead, and there is no further threat to the community.

EPC Sheriff Bill Elder says one deputy has died. That deputy was identified as 34-year-old Micah Flick. Officials say he is survived by his wife and 7-year-old twins.

Elder says Flick died on his 11th anniversary of being with the sheriff's office.

"Micah was an outstanding member of my agency. He will be missed," said Elder.

Law enforcement asking public to avoid area.

The shooting has prompted many in the community to call for an end to shootings involving officers, including Douglas County Sheriff's deputy Jeff Pelle, who was shot and seriously injured in an ambush on New Year's Eve.
