Three-Alarm Fire Destroys 4 Units At Apartment Complex

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - Firefighters battled a three alarm fire at an apartment complex in Fort Collins early Wednesday morning.

The fire on the 1700 block of Welch Street started in one unit and quickly spread to others. There were a total of 12 units evacuated at at least four units destroyed.

Firefighters worked to gain control of the fire after it had spread to the attic.

"Our efforts after getting everyone out of the building went to controlling the fire and recovering that lost dog. The dog was found and is safe with its owner," said Poudre Fire Authority firefighter Martin Romero.

Firefighters with Poudre Fire Authority said everyone escaped the flames safely. Rescuers were able to save one dog.

What caused the fire is being investigated.

The apartment complex has found other units for those residents who have been displaced.
