Thornton Police To Recreate Crash That Left 3 Injured
THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Thornton will recreate the crash that critically injured a pregnant woman and left her child and mother with minor injuries.
Two vehicles collided at the intersection of 138th and Holly Street on Wednesday afternoon. One of the cars went onto the sidewalk, striking two women and a 1½ year old boy who was being pushed in a stroller.
The family lives in the neighborhood where the crash happened.
"I did see the female probably 10 to 15 feet in the air... sort of like doing a cartwheel," said witness Hamaya Gharibyar. "So at the time I stepped out of my vehicle, I yelled back to him, my son, 'Call 911.' I went up to the lady on the ground, I started to talk to her, telling her everything would be fine, can you talk to me? It took her a few minutes to actually say something."
According to the accident report, both drivers are juveniles and that the car that hit the woman "swerved to avoid the car crossing Holly."
Detectives will reconstruct the scene to find out how fast the two cars were driving and who is at fault. Police will not release the names of the drivers unless one or both of them are charged.
The accident reconstruction report could take several days. They are also waiting on toxicology reports on the two drivers, which could take weeks. Officers need those results to factor whether any charges are filed.
Witnesses said the driver who hit the woman seemed in shock.
"He was like, shock, you know, like someone dies? That's how he looked. He was, 'Oh, my, oh, my God. I can't believe what happened,'" said witness Yassin Gharibyar.
