'Deceased Child': Search Called Off For Missing 10-Year-Old Girl

THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4) - The search for a missing 10-year-old girl has been called off after the body of a child was found.

Kiaya Campbell was last seen with a friend as they walked to a shopping center in the area of 136th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard Wednesday evening when the two became separated during the rain storm.

"We have a deceased child," said Thornton Police Department spokesman Matt Barnes. "We are waiting for positive confirmation through the Adams County Coroner's Office."

Police did not say whether the body was that of Campbell.

Police initially were searching the area of the 12900 block of Colorado Boulevard, specifically 12466 Forest Drive in Thornton.

Barnes said that Campbell went missing between 8:15 p.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Barnes said that a 911 call was received at 5:30 p.m. Thursday from a resident who said a child's body was found near 128th and Jasmine Court.

Barnes also said that they "are not ruled anybody out."

Campbell is described as 5-foot-4, 150 pounds, with brown-blond hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing blue pants and an orange Broncos shirt, carrying a black backpack with gray and white camouflage on it.
