Thornton Man Charged In Shooting Death Of Wife

THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4) - A 47-year-old man who police believe murdered his wife in Thornton has been charged with first-degree murder.

Seventeenth Judicial District Attorney Dave Young announced the charges on Tuesday against Stefan Stoian, who police initially had called a person of interest in the homicide case.

Thornton police officers found Maria Stoian, 45, dead of a gunshot wound to the head at the family home in the 7500 block of East 121st Place on June 3.

Police arrested Stoian on June 5 in Sparks, Nevada, which is near Reno.

So far police haven't said what Stoian might have been doing there.

Stoian is expected to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 14.
