This Year's Fireworks Display Will Be Bigger, Longer & Louder
DENVER (CBS4) - Although covered in snow, two rooftops in downtown Denver are packed with thousands of fireworks ready to ring in 2015, and a little snow isn't going to keep people away.
Come New Year's Eve 15,000 fireworks shells will ready to bring in 2015. Protected under plastic sheets sits thousands of pyrotechnics ready and waiting to light up the night sky.
The 13th annual New Year's Eve fireworks show has two scheduled performances in downtown Denver – one at 9 p.m. and the other at midnight.
"They are 8-minute productions, simultaneous firings from two different rooftops," said Western Enterprises Chief Executive Officer Jim Burnett.
Burnett says this year's event will be bigger and louder than ever before.
"We have color changing stars, which is actually very unique," he said.
"We have a 40-second finale, which is the longest finale we've had in history," Brittany Morris Saunders with the Downtown Denver Partnership said.
Sponsors of the event like Visit Denver and the Downtown Denver Partnership say the free show will be visible from anywhere along the 16th Street Mall.
"We want to encourage people to make a night of it because there are hotel rates and packages and parties," Jayne Buck with Visit Denver said.
In addition, RTD is offering free light rail and bus service on New Year's Eve starting at 7 p.m.
"It's going to be a lot more powerful, a lot more intense, high energy, and it's going to be a little louder … make it a little more ruckus for the audience," Burnett said.
