'The Addams Family' At BDT Stage Delivers Message In Strange, Funny Way

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - "The Addams Family" has been a series of cartoons, a TV show, and a couple of very strange movies. Now "The Addams Family" is a Broadway musical in Boulder at the BDT Stage, formally known as the Boulder Dinner Theatre.

Critic at Large Greg Moody reviewed the musical for CBS4 and says it remains "creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky, and maybe even just a little bit ooky."

The light musical entertainment had a rough go on Broadway before being completely revamped for the road.

"What makes it work now is the cast and the obvious fun they are having on stage," Moody said.

Moody said Scott Beyette is a treat playing Gomez who is "slick and slimy at the same time" as he tries to find safe passage through his daughter's romance with a "normal" boy.

He said Alicia King sweeps majestically through the numbers as Morticia.

"But then come the sideline performers who get to simply have a blast on stage," Moody said. "Wayne Kennedy as Fester is marvelous."

Joanie Brosseau as Alice and Barb Reeves as grandma have "too much fun and keep the show moving at a lively pace," according to Moody.

Despite the fun there is a message about family, acceptance and the power of love.

"You get the message in a strange and funny little way," Moody said.
