Teens Ticketed In Planting Pipe Bomb At Mrachek Middle School

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Three teenagers will be issued tickets after being accused of planting a pipe bomb at Mrachek Middle School in Aurora last week.

The device didn't explode, fire officials said. The school was evacuated Aug. 11 after the remnants of the pipe bomb, which burned, were discovered on the southwest side of the school. Classes resumed the next day.

The teens will be issued tickets for reckless kindling which equates to misuse of fire and trespassing. The summonses will be issued through Aurora Municipal Court. No one was hurt in the incident.

Investigators said surveillance photos helped them track down the teens. They are not being identified because they are juveniles.

Security footage shows at least three teenage males on school grounds at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 9. One is wearing a black hat with a black-and-white checkered shirt. Another is wearing a dark hoodie with the word "California." A third is wearing a black T-shirt and a light-colored baseball hat.

Mrachek Middle School is located on South Telluride Street in Aurora, just north of Rangeview High School.
