Teens Take Texting While Driving Simulation
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Teens took a test at school on Friday, but this wasn't one for their report cards, this test showed them the dangers of texting and driving.
Teen drivers at Gateway High School in Aurora sat behind the wheel of an AT&T driving simulator where teens were encouraged to text while driving.
"You might, like crash, and end up killing yourself and hurting somebody else and I wouldn't do that," said 16-year-old Dagmbrhan Gebretsevik.
The principal said it's about making sure the kids stay safe. She said the simulator program was so effective she would like to have it at the school every year.
Teens text an average of 60 times a day. One text equals taking your eyes off the road for an average of five seconds. Driving at 55 mph, that's like driving the length of a football field during one text.
