Teen Wanted In Attempted Car Theft Turned Murder Turns Himself In

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police announced shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday that 16-year-old Israel "Izzy" Alvarado was arrested.

Police believed Alvarado was getting help in hiding from authorities while an arrest warrant had been issued for him.

Alvarado is considered a homicide suspect after a man was killed during an attempted car theft.

Police believe he is responsible for trying to steal a Volvo from the El Mechanico auto body shop, located at 3151 West Alameda Avenue in Denver, on July 3.

William Romo-Rodriguez died trying to stop the would-be-thief after police said that he had been "ejected from a vehicle while attempting to stop a suspect" from stealing a customer's SUV."

Police say Alvarado will be charged as an adult.
