Teen Pleads Guilty To Stabbing Classmate

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (AP/CBS4)- A 14-year-old pleaded guilty on Friday to stabbing his classmate at Aspen Creek K-8 School in Broomfield in April.

The juvenile male pleaded guilty to first-degree felony assault causing bodily injury with a deadly weapon on an at-risk victim. The charge was considered at-risk because of the 14-year-old victim's age.

The Adams County/Broomfield District Attorney's Office said a sentence enhancer was added because the teen is an aggravated juvenile offender.

The stabbing occurred on April 30 during recess. Initially, eighth-graders say a joke gone too far may have been what led to the stabbing. The victim was airlifted to the hospital.

The teen's name has not been released because he is a juvenile. He will be sentenced on Sept. 30 at 9 a.m. at the Broomfield Courthouse.
