Teen Held On $500,000 Bond In Deadly Crash
GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4)- A teenager suspected of driving a stolen vehicle that caused a deadly crash earlier this month, remained in custody on $500,000 bond.
Ignacio Daigle, 19, appeared in Jefferson County Court via video conferencing. His entire family was there to show their support.
The deadly crash happened on Wadsworth Boulevard near Independence Driver on March 8. Police claim Daigle and the second suspect, Patrick Engle stole a pickup truck and caused the crash while trying to get away from officers who had started a pursuit.
Daigle ran away from the crash and was arrested several days later.
The crash killed Jessica Holman, 33, of Thornton. Holman had been with family members and was driving to buy dinner when she was struck and killed. She left behind a 10-year-old son.
Daigle's mother said while her son was in the stolen vehicle, she doesn't believe he was the driver.
"He's very caring and sweet... outgoing, he doesn't deserve to be here. He wasn't driving that truck," said Daigle's mother Tiffany Daigle. "I understand that somebody did die in the accident and my condolences go out to the family but he wasn't driving. He's a good kid."
Daigle's defense attorneys argued the same thing- that he wasn't the driver. Instead they insinuated the second suspect in the case, Engle, was driving.
Engle, 28, was taken into custody right after the crash.
