Teen From Monument Arrested In Monarch Skiing Assaults Case

CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A teenager from the Colorado Springs area is under arrest in connection with two different attempted sex assaults at Monarch Mountain.

Authorities say the 15-year-old male, whose name has not been released, rode the lift with female teenage victims and then followed them down ski runs to a point where he could force them into the woods and attempt to attack them. The suspect allegedly victimized two different girls. The first crime occurred on Dec. 19 and the second on Jan. 1.

In one of the attempted assaults authorities say the suspect fired a gun into the air to scare the victim.

Officials with the Chaffee County Sheriff's office say the suspect is from Monument and was arrested there on Tuesday. He is facing charges that including kidnapping and two counts of attempted sexual assault.

Authorities say the suspect was brazen because the slopes were busy with skiers and snowboarders who were there during the holiday season.

So far they haven't said how they tracked down the suspect.

Monarch Mountain is located in Chaffee County west of Salida.
