Teen Brother Of 10-Year-Old Killed In Shooting Arrested
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Aurora have made an arrest in connection with the death of a 10-year-old boy who died after being shot last Friday.
According to Sgt. Chris Amsler, Jalecc Celanco Taylor, 17, was arrested on negligent child abuse resulting in death charges. Taylor is the brother of the victim, Anthony "Jemel" Hemmings-Taylor.
Police responded to the Nordic Arms Apartments at the intersection of Galena Street and East Colfax Avenue at 9:45 p.m. last Friday. Authorities said they found Hemmings-Taylor suffering from the injury inside an apartment on the first floor of the building. The officers were unable to save the boy.
Friends and family gathered at the City of Aurora MLK Library located at 9898 East Colfax Avenue on Monday evening. Following the vigil there was a march to the area East 16th Avenue and North Galena Street in Aurora.
Chief of Police Nick Metz and other representatives from the Aurora Police Department were there and reminded people the importance of keeping guns away from children.
The family says the shooting was an accident but police have yet to comment on the investigation.
