TeachStrong Campaign Pushes For More Diversity

DENVER (CBS4)- Education leaders continue to push for higher quality public education in Colorado. The TeachStrong campaign discussed recruiting diverse teacher candidates at the state Capitol on Tuesday.

One educator explained why she has had trouble becoming a teacher in her community.

"I know many people who would make strong teachers. The tremendous amount... the tremendous upfront cost to earning a teaching license proved to be too much of a barrier for us. And we need to change that," said educator Larisa Cantu.

Organizers said most Coloradans support their strategy of looking for more diverse teachers to improve education.

The campaign is made up of dozens of teachers unions and education policy leaders.
