SUV Driver Who Backed Into Students: No Drivers License
ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The SUV driver who backed into three students and pinned them against the wall of their elementary school did not have a driver's license.
Colorado State Patrol said three students were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries on Thursday afternoon after an SUV backed into them while they were walking on a sidewalk.
State troopers told CBS4 the driver of the SUV, Maria Aguilar-Rodriguez, was driving without a license. Troopers cited her with three counts of careless driving causing bodily injury and one count of driving without a license.
"We are not sure the reason why the vehicle backed up," a state trooper said. "That is still under investigation."
The accident happened at Valley View Elementary in unincorporated Adams County after school on Thursday.
The identities of the children have not been released. The injuries were very serious but the children will survive. It could be a long road to recovery, according to a family friend.
Ana Magana was at the school picking up her daughter when emergency crews swarmed the parking lot.
"She said the kids were screaming and some of the moms were started crying too," Magana said.
"It's a good reminder to parents and students; even if you're in a parking lot to be cognizant of your surroundings," the trooper said.
