Suspects Remain At Large After Sunday Police Chase
DENVER (CBS4) - An Englewood police officer is recovering from his injuries after rolling his vehicle as police chased a stolen pickup on Sunday morning.
Police on Monday were still looking for two men who got away after the chase.
The series of events started at East Parker Road and Quincy Avenue when officers with the East Metro Auto Theft Task Force spotted a stolen white truck at a 7-Eleven. The suspects in the truck took off and police followed the vehicle into Cherry Creek State Park, where the truck smashed through a gate and drove along a dirt road.
"The next thing I know, a white truck flies past my pickup," said Stuart Smith, who was on the road in his truck. "I noticed that the front right tire was flat and they had a mirror gone.
"I thought, 'I'd better stay put in my truck and not move.' "
At one point during the chase the Englewood officer rolled the black pickup he was driving.
The pair in the stolen truck then stole a car belonging to a park visitor and wound up losing police for good.
People who came to enjoy the park on Sunday morning were surprised to see the police activity.
"I figured it would be nice and calm out here," said Jerry Swensen. "The first thing I thought? Somebody fell through the ice."
Police say the suspects were last seen driving a black Ford F-150 with license plate number 388 VNY. It had a sticker on the back window that said "I Love Beavers."
The name of the officer who was injured has not been released.
