Suspect Injured During Shootout Following Bank Robbery

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4) - A suspected bank robber only got about a mile away from the scene of the crime on Friday before police caught up with him and the gunfire started.

The robbery took place in the afternoon at TCF Bank, and emergency dispatchers in Broomfied put out a "code one, channel one" alert to all officers.

Soon after police arrived at the bank, located at 144th Street and Aspen Way, they had a vehicle description to work with. It was a pickup truck.

An officer spotted the apparent truck a mile from the bank on 144th.

"I'm behind a white Ford diesel. No plates. Occupied by one male..." an officer said on their police radio frequency.

Witnesses told police they saw the driver stop the truck in the the road, get out, and then start firing.

Broomfield police Sgt. Rick Kempsell says the suspect, a white male who is approximately 45, and the unidentifed officer exchanged gunfire.

"The suspect was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. The officer fortunately is fine," Kempsell said.

Police have not released the name of the suspect.
