Strong Winds Cause Issues For Drivers In Northern Colorado
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4)- Strong winds blew snow onto roads across Northern Colorado on Thursday which made for slick conditions for drivers.
Crews shut down Shields and Taft Hill on the west side of Larimer County between Fort Collins and Loveland.
On Thursday morning, one person was struck when a car slid into the Jeep he was using to try to tow another stuck car.
The Colorado State Patrol said at one point in the day there were 15 crashes in one hour.
"Drivers are being caught off guard, the snow is blowing across the road creating a wet spot and the wind is strong enough to blow a significant amount of snow across the road," said Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Bart Trippel.
Highway 287 north of Ted's Place was closed during the worst of the wind and blowing snow.
Larimer County worked to open all roads by Thursday night but urged drivers to take it slow.
