String Of Thefts In Jefferson County Could Be Part Of Larger Ring

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Investigators think a string of thefts in Jefferson County may be part of a larger crime ring.

Sheriff's investigators say there've been dozens of similar thefts at fitness centers across the metro area.

One woman from Boulder fell victim while hiking with her dog.

"I immediately knew my purse was gone. There was my checkbook, so they wrote $12,000 worth of checks," the woman said.

In almost every case the thieves break the car window, steal a purse and use a drive-through window at a local bank to withdraw cash using the victim's checks and identification.
