State Requests Aid From FEMA In Wake Of Flooding

DENVER (CBS4) - Colorado is asking the Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, for aid in the wake of recent flooding.

The state submitted the request as a result of severe weather and flooding that occurred between April 16 and June 20 in 11 counties. Those include Baca, Elbert, El Paso, Fremont, Logan, Morgan, Pueblo, Saguache, Sedgwick, Washington, and Yuma counties.

El Paso County had high waters Thursday night after heavy rains. The preliminary assessments show $20 million worth of damage across the counties.

If the state can get a "disaster declaration" it would free up grant money to pay for debris removal and repairs.
