State Lawmakers Recognize Anti-Human Trafficking Advocacy Day
DENVER (CBS4)- State lawmakers took a moment to recognize Anti-Human Trafficking Advocacy Day at the state Capitol. This is the second such events for state lawmakers.
Human trafficking has been identified as the fastest growing criminal industry in the world second only to drug trafficking as the most profitable.
Several speakers were featured including Attorney General John Suthers, Denver Chief of Police Robert White, FBI Special Agent in Charge Thomas Ravenelle, and Homeland Security Special Agent in Charge Kumar Kibble. U.S. Attorney for Denver John Walsh also spoke.
One of the women hoping to raise awareness about the issue is a survivor of human trafficking and dedicated to helping others trapped in the same situation.
"Even though they've been through a lot of really rough stuff they can have a complete turnaround and have all the things that they've ever wanted and so that's what I hope they hear and that's the message I hope I bring out to everybody," said survivor Aubrey Lloyd.
Another item on the agenda was the discussion of the four Ps to end human trafficking: prevention, protection, prosecution and participation.
