Standing Water And Hail Briefly Close I-70 East Of Bennett

BYERS, Colo. (AP) - Water, wind and hail forced closures on Interstate 70 on Sunday.

Hail and standing water led to a brief closure of Interstate 70 near Byers on Sunday, while snow stranded trucks and cars on mountain highways.

The National Weather Service issued small stream flood advisories for counties along the Front Range, but no major flooding was reported.

Forecasters issued winter storm warnings for the Colorado mountains, with up to 16 inches of snow possible in some areas through Monday.

Westbound lanes of Interstate 70 in the mountains were closed Sunday afternoon at Frisco due to multiple accidents and heavy snow. The eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed at Vail Pass, also due to multiple accidents.

Both lanes reopened Sunday afternoon after the accidents were cleared.
