St. Mary's Glacier Residents Want Answers After Being Without Water For 12 Days
ST. MARY'S GLACIER, Colo. (CBS4) – Frustrated homeowners in Saint Mary's Glacier near Idaho Springs have been without usable water for 12 days.
Many want answers after learning it could be another week before the problem is fixed.
Water service has been restored but it's still not safe to use.
"I'm going to lose two tenants over it, so to say I'm furious, that's being nice," said resident Brock Cureton.
Last week water levels dropped to extreme lows prompting the shut off of the town's wells. As technicians worked to fix that problem they came across more, including faulty wells.
In a packed town meeting on Friday residents voiced concerns and listened as town officials explained recent repairs and ongoing efforts.
"Once I've got that tank filled then we can start flushing. We'll start from the top and flush our way down," said Wayne Ramey form St. Mary's Glacier Water and Sanitation.
Though water is flowing to some homes in the area, it's too dangerous to use until the flush is completed. There's hope that it might just be a few more days away.
"I can't blame anybody. That's just a natural phenomenon of living at 10,200 feet," said Cureton.
