Springs Planting: Don't Let String Of Warm Weather Fool You

DENVER (CBS4) - As we move further into spring, many people may think the snow is over. But there's still a good chance for below freezing temperatures.

It's becoming that time of year when those with a green thumb need to decide to plant, or not to plant.

History says that between now and the end of April in Denver, there's still a 50 percent chance the temperature will drop to 32 degrees. But wait a little bit longer, it drops to a 10 percent chance after May 13.

So what are the best planting choices for late April?

"We're still getting those frosts, sometimes even harder frosts. So now is a good time to plant trees, shrubs, perennials; especially perennials that have been … outside, acclimated to the cold weather and so forth," Richard Ortega with Nick's Garden Center said.

So don't let a long string of warm weather in Colorado fool you, because when it comes to planting, patience may be a virtue.
