Spring Rain Creates More Vegetation, Fuel For Wildfires
BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4)- All the spring rain and snow that the Front Range received this year has caused more vegetation to grow. Now that vegetation is drying out and creating a lot of fuel for wildfires.
About 10 acres of a field burned on Tuesday afternoon near Interstate 25 and 144th Avenue. The fire created so much black smoke that southbound lanes of I-25 were closed for a while due to zero visibility.
The winds fanned the flames, which made it difficult for firefighters. Crews finally got control of the fire after about 45 minutes.
What caused the fire is being investigated.
Copter4 flew over the fire where a farmer cut a break in the crop to help crews battle the blaze.
