South Dakota Ghost Town Up For Sale

SWETT, S.D. (CBS4) - An entire town in South Dakota has been listed for sale. The tiny town of Swett was first offered for sale sixteen months ago, and is now back on the market for a largely discounted price, the Rapid City Journal reports.

Swett is now an abandoned ghost town, with a closed tavern, empty haunted house, and over 6 acres of prairie real estate. It can be yours for $250,000.

Real estate agent Stacie Montgomery told the Rapid City Journal that when the property was first listed in July 2014, she received emails and phone calls from potential buyers as far away as Australia, Russia, China, and Germany.

Three written offers even came in, but they fell through. Montgomery said she is surprised the town didn't sell with its initial listing after all the free publicity.

But now with the town cleaned up a bit and a lower price, she's hopeful it will sell this time around.

Colorado has some of its own ghost towns. Check out the best in the U.S.
