Colorado Weather: More snow heading into the afternoon

Another surge of snow for the afternoon drive

A Winter blast hitting Colorado is continuing to bring bitter cold air along with icy roads . The storm blew through overnight Tuesday into Wednesday laying down a layer of freezing rain. Then light snow accumulation by morning added up for a rough combination. A First Alert Weather Day is in effect through tomorrow.

It was mostly light and fluffy flakes at daybreak on Wednesday in the Denver metro area. But that was on top of already icy roads, and the driving conditions are dangerous. Roads in the mountains are also a concern, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation, which described the conditions as "treacherous."

Winter Weather Advisories are posted for the Denver metro area into parts of northeastern Colorado for 1 to 3 inches of snow. Areas in and near the foothills will see closer to 2 to 4 inches.

Over a foot of snow is expected for many mountain areas in western Colorado. With a Winter Storm Warning in place through Thursday morning.

The Denver metro area snow should taper off after 8pm. Leaving a cold night ahead. There is a Wind Chill Advisory in place Wednesday night through Thursday morning for Denver and a big chunk of Northeastern Colorado.
