Snowboarder Found Guilty In Crash That Injured Child At Breckenridge
BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (CBS4) - A man accused of injuring a child while snowboarding at Breckenridge Ski Area last April has been found guilty.
Matt Grannell was found guilty of two misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment and third-degree assault after colliding with a child on the Pioneer Trail, a blue run in the middle of Peak 7 at Breckenridge Ski Area.
"A little 6-year-old girl was skiing on the Pioneer Run at Breckenridge resort and she fell in a spot that had some decreased visibility," said Deputy District Attorney Alexandra Deitz.
Grannell was snowboarding when he struck the child just below what many people call a roller, a flat section followed by a steep drop on the mountain. There is a sign that reads "Caution People Below."
Grannell's attorney said in court that his snowboarding was done with substantial and unjustifiable risk, but prosecutors convinced the jury that he was riding recklessly.
