Snow Day Means No School, Lots Of Powder For Play

DENVER (CBS4)- If you heard cheering in your neighborhood, it was because schools across the Denver metro area were closed! It was a deep powder day at Ruby Hill where the little kids showed up for the sledding.

Devon Dumpert said, "Dad's gonna push me as fast as I can down the hill."

Mike Dumpert gave it a good try but Devon tumbled to a stop a few yards away.

Community college classes were cancelled, too, so Crystal Galvin used her time to
work on her snowboarding.

"It's awesome. But you know, I've still got to do some Christmas shopping," Galvin said.

Kids who preferred to stay out of the weather spent time on the basketball court at Central Park Recreation Center. Others made a splash in the pool.

Ted Shade told us, "Schools closed, so we're swimming."

Shade had to stay home and entertain son, Grayson, while his wife went to work.

"It screws up the whole schedule," the working dad said.

Not so for the kids who were out of school and took advantage of Denver's first big snow of the season.
