Wildfire Gives Superior Homeowners A Scare

SUPERIOR, Colo. (CBS4) - A wildfire that came within 50 yards of some houses in Superior was fueled by strong winds and dry conditions.

The fire broke out on Friday at 11:30 a.m. near Highway 128 and McCaslin Boulevard in Boulder County.

The fire grew to approximately 27 acres, and it burned close to homes in the town of Superior. Some homes were evacuated. The blaze also forced the closure of Highway 128 by the Broomfield line.

Kristen Brigham was taking her daughter to school when she saw the flames.

"The whole mountain was on fire," said Brigham.

Copter4 captured images of firefighters setting backfires to halt the progress of the fire. About 60 firefighters from eight districts responded to the fire.

Homeowners could be seen with hoses spraying water on their trees and fences.

No one was hurt in the fire and no evacuations were called for. Authorities announced it was contained about 2 and a half hours later. Some firefighters remained on scene to watch for hot spots and flareups.

What caused the fire remained under investigation.

Fire crews in Colorado are on alert as Colorado continues to experience near-record and record high temperatures.

Several different fires also broke out on Thursday, including a brush fire in rural Weld County.

None of Thursday's fires caused any widespread damage and they were all extinguished quickly.
