Warning Given About Sledding Behind Cars
DENVER (CBS4)- Recent snowfall has people outside, embarking on snow activities. But one sledding activity taken to the extreme is garnering a warning.
"For the first part, it's illegal. Secondly, it's a bad idea. You're going to get hurt," The Edge Works owner Matt Hupperts said.
A 33-year-old Colorado Spring man died after a homemade sled crashed into a parked car.
Authorities say David Teets was riding a homemade sled pulled by an SUV on Monday when the SUV crashed into a parked vehicle.
Police say Michael Miner, 43, was driving the SUV. He was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault and trying to influence police officers.
Police say the sled appeared to be made from a metal bed frame covered with a rubber mat.
Two teenagers were injured in a sled towing incident in Weld County near the Saddleback Golf Club.
One of those teens, a 15-year-old girl, is recovering at Children's Hospital after the sled she was being pulled on struck a dirt patch and sent her flying into a wooden fence post.
Police in Denver told CBS4 that towing a sled, even if no one gets hurt, is illegal. It's an offense punishable by a $100 fine.
