Skier Triggers Avalanche Near Eisenhower Tunnel, Suffers Critical Injuries
SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Rescue crews raced to an area near Interstate 70 and the Eisenhower Tunnel Monday afternoon after a skier set off a large avalanche and became trapped in the snow.
Summit County Rescue Group mission coordinators confirm a skier set off the slide and was partially buried and suffered critical injuries in the slide.
The avalanche happened near the entrance westbound I-70 above the parking lot at a place called Coon Hill.

The victim's name has not been released.
Current avalanche conditions are considered considerable by the Colorado Avalanche Information Center but changing conditions and fresh snow are making avalanche danger tricky to predict.
Last Saturday a man was killed in an avalanche on St. Mary's Glacier and snowmobiler was killed on Thursday on Kebler Pass. They were the first two avalanche deaths of this season.
