Skier Recovering After Avalanche In Southwestern Colorado
TELLURIDE, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say a 35-year-old skier is recovering after he was caught in an avalanche in southwestern Colorado.
The San Miguel County Sheriff's Office says the Norwood man, whose name has not been released, was skiing with a friend in the Serpent Couloir near the town of Ophir when they triggered the slide Sunday afternoon.
The man was not buried, but he suffered a broken femur. His friend, who was not injured, skied to Ophir and called for help.
Sheriff's deputy Todd Rector says the injured skier was carried about 1,400 vertical feet by the shallow slab avalanche.
