Skier Breaks Leg In Backcountry Avalanche Near Vail

VAIL, Colo. (CBS4) - Rescue crews helped get three skiers out of an area where a large avalanche injured one of them on Thursday morning.

The slide happened in the Pitkin Creek area, and the skier who was hurt broke his leg.

The three skiers were described as being in their 30s. They had avalanche safety gear with them.

The names of the skiers have not been released.

The injured man was taken to Vail Valley Medical Center, the Vail Daily reported.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center says the current avalanche danger in Colorado's high country is rated as considerable.
