Ski Areas, Skiers Rejoice With Fresh Snow

ARAPAHOE BASIN, Colo. (CBS4)- A week before the official start to fall, snow has started to fall in the high country. The overnight dusting of white powder is especially evident along the Continental Divide.

Both ski areas there received snow not just on the mountaintops, but all the way down to the base areas.

Loveland Ski Area says it'll start making snow in 15 days.

Arapahoe Basin staffers posted that "last night was very stormy around here" and "all around the enthusiasm for the coming winter is rising."

Breckenridge (credit: Breckenridge Ski Area)

Keystone, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Winter Park and Aspen also posted pictures of fresh snow Thursday morning.

Loveland says it opens to open sometime mid-late October. Loveland and Arapahoe Basin typically race to see which area will open first. Most of the state's ski area's open in November, the rest by Christmas.

Snow is evident on Buffalo Mountain and some of the other peaks near Frisco in Summit County as well.

CBS4's Matt Kroschel even tweeted about the fresh snow, unable to contain his excitement over winter even though fall hasn't officially arrived.
