Sinkhole Caused By Broken Storm Sewer Pipe

DENVER (CBS4)- A sinkhole in the middle of a busy intersection in Denver is blamed on a broken storm sewer pipe.

The sinkhole appeared in the middle of the intersection at 9th and Washington on Wednesday night.

Both streets were closed to traffic for a couple of blocks in each direction for several hours while crews worked to determine what caused the hole and how big it would get.

Those streets have mostly reopened but there is a big hole in the intersection that is cordoned off by orange traffic cones which reduces traffic down to one lane.

Denver Public Works said if all repairs go as planned the road could reopen Friday morning.
