Trevor Siemian, Mark Sanchez Competing For Starting Quarterback Position
DENVER (CBS4) - Mark Sanchez was drafted fifth overall in the 2009 draft and has played seven seasons in the NFL with 72 regular-season starts and six in the playoffs. Trevor Siemian — his main competition — was the No. 250 pick in the 2015 draft and executed the QB kneel in the only snap he has taken during a regular-season game.
Head coach Gary Kubiak made it clear that rookie Paxton Lynch is third on the quarterback depth chart, while Sanchez and Siemian battle for the No. 1 spot.
"When I sit there and watch them (Sanchez and Siemian) practice, I think they're right there banging on each other," Kubiak Said.
"I think they're looking each other right in the eye throughout the whole course of the offseason as far who is ahead and who is one or two. They're obviously ahead of our young guy just from a mental standpoint right now."
This doesn't officially rule out Lynch on winning or taking over the starting role at some point. The potential franchise quarterback was also praised by Kubiak on Tuesday.
"I think the young kid is extremely talented and young. He does a lot of great things, but he has his troubles," said Kubiak. "All the ability is there. It's just trying to get all the consistency in place for what you do."
It is still unknown as to when the coaching staff will officially announce their starting quarterback, but the fact remains that the organization is pleased with how well all three of the QB's are performing thus far.
