Dozens Of Bullets Shot Into Home, Girl Inside Killed

DENVER (CBS4)- A girl was shot and killed when more than a dozen bullets were shot into the home early Wednesday morning. It is unclear whether it was a drive-by shooting as police continued to search for the gunman.

Police rushed to the home in the 4200 block of West Dakota just after 3:15 a.m. on reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found the female victim inside the residence, described by neighbors as a little girl, wounded after more than a dozen bullets were fired into the home from the outside. She later died at the hospital.

Neighbors say they heard several shots and then silence before another round of shots.

"I was awake about 3:15. I heard shots, really loud shots. And I asked my husband, 'Did you hear that?' He said, 'Yes. Either fireworks, fire crackers or gunshots.' So I got up and I looked around and I heard the sirens of the cops," said neighbor Molly Garcia.

Police had marked the street in front of the home with blue indicators used in the investigation.

It is unclear whether it was a drive-by shooting but police are investigating the shooting as a homicide.

The victim died at the hospital. Her identity has not been released. Police have not confirmed her age but just that she was a "juvenile female."

"As you can see here, it's a very active scene, active investigation. We have officers who are literally going door-to-door and asking if anyone saw anything or heard anything suspicious or unusual that may aid us in our investigation," said Denver Police spokesman John White.
