Sex Assault Fugitive Returned To Custody

BRIGHTON, Colo. (CBS4)- A sex assault fugitive was returned to custody on Saturday morning after he turned himself in to authorities.

Rafael Sanchez, 31, has two warrants out of Adams County for failure to appear and failure to comply. The charges he faces include sex assault on a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office confirmed Sanchez turned himself in to deputies at the Adams County Jail just after 8 a.m.

It is unclear whether Sanchez will be facing additional charges.

His ex-wife told CBS4 that authorities confirmed Sanchez cut off his ankle monitor. They divorced in 2009.

Sanchez was scheduled for a motions hearing at 9 a.m. Friday. The failure to appear warrant was issued on Friday. The case has been scheduled to go to a jury trial on Sept. 14.

The charges were filed against Sanchez in April 2009 and he was arrested on Dec. 24, 2013.
