Senate Panel Kills 21st Century Open Records Bill

DENVER (AP) - A Republican-led state Senate committee has voted to defeat a bill to modernize Colorado's open records law.

The bill would have made more government records available in their original computerized formats, rather than paper, so that the public can better analyze them.

The State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee voted 3-2 along party lines against the bill Wednesday.

Republicans expressed concerns that the security of sensitive government data, such as student records, could be compromised if databases are delivered electronically to citizens.
