Sen. Bennet Tours Bioscience IT Companies In Colorado

DENVER (CBS4)- Sen. Michael Bennet is touring bioscience and health IT companies in Colorado.

Today Bennet visited Welltok, the technology company that created the CaféWell Health Optimization Platform.

Bennet met Britney, a woman who has lost 75 pounds using one of them, CaféWell. It's those success stories Bennet wants to highlight.

"The purpose is to continue to bring Colorado's ideas to Washington, D.C. where people are spending a lot of time fighting, while we're trying to build an economy here that's robust," said Bennet.

He's working on the MEDTECH Act, Medical Electronic Data Technology Enhancement for Consumers' Health, that would exempt low-risk medical software and mobile apps from FDA regulation and provide greater certainty regarding what software will be regulated by the agency to protect consumers.

Bennet will visit several other high-tech health companies in Colorado Springs, Broomfield and Boulder in the next couple of weeks, including Corgenix, that conducts Ebola testing.
