Search Continues For Missing Plane Near Pagosa Springs

PAGOSA SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - Search crews have zeroed in on an area where they believe a missing plane is located near Colorado's border with New Mexico.

The Colorado Wing of Civil Air Patrol is assisting in the search.

"We have the search area narrowed down to a few square miles using cell phone forensics and radar data," said Maj. Mark Young, Incident Commander for the mission, which was requested by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center.

The plane was headed from New Mexico to the Archuleta County Airport at Stevens Field in Pagaso Springs on Saturday afternoon. It never arrived at the airport, and a family member reported the plan overdue on Monday.

The weather in Pagosa Springs was poor at the time and no flight plan was filed.

The air patrol surveyed the area near the site of last radar contact.

"We had an airplane in the area last night trying to pick up any emergency signals from the ELT, none were heard," said Young.

Search efforts continued Tuesday. Several air patrol aircraft and the county's sheriff's office conducted searches.
