Former School Counselor Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Student

DENVER (CBS4) - A former school guidance counselor at a high school in Denver has been arrested and is accused of sexually assaulting a student.

Troy Vandenbroeke, 49, is charged with the crime against the student at Denver Christian High School.

Vandenbroeke is out on bond and due back in court next month.

Vandenbroeke's employment at the high school ended more than two years ago, according to school administrators. He was hired earlier this year by the Cherry Creek School District and worked as a teacher's aide at several different schools there. When information about the case was provided to the district, they placed him on administrative leave. He resigned from his position soon afterwards.

Denver Christian High School CEO Todd Lanting provided the following statement about this case:

"The person in question has not been employed by Denver Christian for over two years. Given the recent arrest, we are able to confirm that we are working with law enforcement officials. Because the legal process is not yet complete, we are unable to comment further at this time, other than to encourage everyone to join us in praying for all concerned."
