Continuing safety concerns with Colorado snowstorm lead some school districts to cancel classes on Friday

Snow continues to fall into the night in Denver area,

A growing number of Colorado schools have decided to cancel classes on Friday. The decisions were announced by Denver Public Schools, Jefferson County School District, Douglas County School District, Boulder Valley School District and Cherry Creek School District during the day on Thursday as heavy snow fell and a Winter Storm Warning was in effect.

The snowstorm started dropping wet snow overnight and it will continue to fall all through the day on Thursday and into Friday morning. Roads are snow-covered and icy and snowplows are facing a big challenge getting to side streets.

Schools across the Denver metro area and other parts of the Front Range are already canceled on Thursday.

The snow day on Thursday was exciting for more than just school kids. In Aurora, Tema Bennett decided to strap on her snowshoes and go for a snowy walk.

Substitute teachers enjoys Colorado snow day in Aurora

"I'm a substitute teacher. I just retired in June, so snow days still are a thrill," Bennett said as she was struck in the face with some falling snow from a tree above.
