Scary Day For Students On Lockdown While Officers Searched For Crime Spree Suspects

SHERIDAN, Colo. (CBS4) - Schools are closed in Sheridan Thursday after a crime spree that left two bystanders wounded on Wednesday. Hundreds of students were kept inside their schools on lockdown until they could be transported to a safe location as officers searched for the suspects.

"It all started with a phone call from the city saying the kids' school was on lockdown -- no one could go into the building, no one could come out," a parent said.

That call came at around noon, but for some parents little information about why would follow.

"I think that was the hardest part, just not knowing what the situation was," another parent said.

High school, junior high, and even elementary and preschool students were kept inside while law enforcement -- some in full tactical gear -- scoured the surrounding area.

"We (saw) a lot of police walking around and coming inside checking on everybody," Sanchez said.

Those too young to understand exactly what was going on say the day was just too long.

"This is a crazy day," a young girl said.

"Yeah, I was scared … because I didn't get to see my mom at the time I'm supposed to," a young boy said.

"Everything turned out fine, it was just kind of scary," a mother said.

Sheridan schools will be back in session on Friday, although the suspects have yet to be found.
